NEC Baby Formula Attorneys in Texas
Premature infants across the country are at risk for a serious medical condition called necrotizing enterocolitis after being fed Similac or Enfamil while in the hospital or after they are discharged and sent home with their parents.
Parents nationwide are filing baby formula lawsuits against the makers of Similac and Enfamil, claiming the manufacturers did not adequately warn them that cow’s milk-based formulas could lead to serious gastrointestinal problems, significant health problems, or death in premature infants.
Our personal injury attorneys at Glen Larson Law Injury Attorneys believe that the manufacturers must be held liable for the affected users’ long-term medical care and other damages, and/or the losses families have experienced.

What is Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)?
Necrotizing Enterocolitis, or NEC, is a serious gastrointestinal condition that causes intestinal tissue death in premature infants.
NEC causes inflammation that may cause holes in the intestine, which allows bacteria from the intestine to leak into the blood or abdomen causing serious illness or deadly blood infections.
Over three decades ago, a study published by the National Library of Medicine reported that NEC was up to ten times more common in premature babies who were given formula.
More recently, additional studies have continued to link cow’s milk-based formula to a higher risk of NEC in premature infants.
In as many as 50% of cases, NEC may be fatal.
Which Baby Formula Manufacturers are Being Sued by Texas Parents for NEC?
Two major baby formula manufacturers are being named in lawsuits filed by parents who claim the companies knew — or should have known — their baby formula products could cause necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in premature infants.
The NEC lawsuits name Mead Johnson, the maker of Enfamil, and Abbott Laboratories, the maker of Similac, for failing to warn parents and medical providers about the risk associated with their products’ use.

Have the Baby Formula Manufacturers or the FDA Issued Enfamil and Similac Recalls?
Enfamil and Similac have not been recalled for causing NEC.
However, in February 2022, isolated store recalls were issued for product tampering that was linked to potential bacterial infections.
The FDA evaluated the formula in question and declared it safe.
In February 2022, Abbott Nutrition recalled certain batches of Similac, EleCare, and Alimentum manufactured at its Sturgis, Michigan facility that caused bacterial infections, Salmonella poisoning, and death in multiple infants.
The FDA and Abbott are still investigating.
Texas parents are suing the baby formula manufacturers for the extensive financial losses and emotional distress related to their baby’s injuries or death.
